A businessman, Mr. Ikechukwu Christian Mmaduabuchi has filed a N10 billion suit against First Bank PLC at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, over alleged fraud and illegal transactions on his account.
In the suit filed by his lawyer, Mr. Maxwell Opara, Mmaduabuchi is seeking several court declarations and orders against First Bank for breach of contractual relationship, violation of privacy and unauthorized account operations resulting in huge losses.
Specifically, he accused the bank of allowing laundering of N7.9 million through his account by a third party, Annytex Global Services on May 16, 2013 without his consent. The money was immediately transferred to another unknown third party account.
Mmaduabuchi further alleged that First Bank officials connived to forge his cheque in order to illegally transfer N50 million from his corporate account on August 12, 2014 without authorization.
According to the court filings, the plaintiff is claiming N10 billion as general damages against the bank and 10 percent post-judgement interest until the entire sum is paid.
When the suit comes up for hearing on December 5, 2023, Mmaduabuchi will be seeking court declarations that First Bank’s actions were unlawful, wrongful and condemnation.
